I am inputting data from Dr. Joseph's weed management trials from last year onto Excel at the Kent County Office. |
This second week of the workforce development internship under Dr. Vollmer and Dr. Joseph has been very eventful and very crucial to my overall success in this internship. On Wednesday I went to the Kent County extension office for the first time and was shown around and introduced to many people by Dr. Joseph. I learned about how he got to where he is now in his career, and what he is currently working on with extension and his research experiments at the Upper Marlboro Research Center. I also inputted data from last years weed management trials onto excel for him to look over and share. My Chemistry class at Chesapeake College helped greatly with being efficient on Excel. At the Wye Research and Education Center, with Dr. Vollmer and the two other interns, we have been setting up, managing, rating, and collecting data for multiple weed management studies going on here at the Wye. I have been learning how Dr. Vollmer sets up and keeps track of his studies, which is on a program called ARM. I have not used this program before, and plan on learning how to efficiently use this throughout the internship. I have also worked with the Horticulture and farming crew at the Wye REC and helped them manage grape, tomato, and blueberry trials. I am trying to learn about and experience all of the different trials that are happening here at the REC to further my knowledge on Agriculture. I find it incredibly interesting to learn about all of these different types of studies that are happening here and how they should benefit Agriculture as a whole statewide. I have noticed I am not the greatest at asking questions, but since this is an internship and I am being shown lots of different Ag studies, I am trying to make myself ask lots of questions so I can be sure to fully understand these new and different ideas. The reason I want to make sure I see as many sides and different types of Agriculture as I can is to open as many future career paths as I can during this internship.
